Google Earth does Darfur Awareness

DarfurcrisisGoogle Earth has added a new layer on the "Crisis in Darfur" that will overlay interactive information with satellite images of the Sudan region, mapping out the destruction of villages and the location of refugee camps and internally displaced persons. This layer is turned on by default by Google, so when millions upon millions of people worldwide open their Google Earth applications, they will be confronted with the reality of this ongoing genocide. (A reality I blogged about with pictures and some pretty angry words, if I recall, about two years ago.)

Good for Google for using their enormous influence and marketing power to draw attention to what continues to happen in Darfur.
