Africa tops "Forgotten Emergencies" list

Africa is on top of Reuter's list of "forgotten emergencies." Congo, Uganda, Sudan, AIDS, West African war... one African had this to say:

Ask Africans caught up in civil wars in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and Sudan what the outside world has done to help and many just shrug. "The white people sit around and watch us die. They just come and take pictures," said Marie, selling hunks of fish at a stall here, the epicentre of fighting between warring militias in northeastern DRC.

"The white people sit around and watch us die. They just come and take pictures." If that doesn't send a chill through your bones, I doubt that anything will. I'm sick of typing. I have nothing more to add.

All 10 "Forgotten Emergencies" by Reuters:

  1. Killing in Congo
  2. Nightmare in Uganda
  3. Sudan's deadly conflicts
  4. AIDS out of control
  5. West Africa on the edge
  6. Columbians uprooted
  7. Chechen conflict
  8. Strife in Haiti
  9. Crisis in Nepal
  10. Infectious diseases
